Archers shooting on the range

WebAdmin: Sorry, I’m posting this one out of order – I forgot to post it at the right time.

The past week has allowed us to all breathe out and relax in to Griffin Archers club normality (If that is even a thing).

Griffin life is beginning to get used to living at Rockingham Forest Park. Our sessions were Tuesday evening, small turn out, but happy archers, and then Thursday we had 3rd Nene Scouts (aged 10 – 14 year) come and have a go. There were 5 coaches there and the Scout leaders so we had plenty of help. Two of the leaders are our club Members Shannon and Alex, so they had the home advantage of knowing what was going on.

The Scouts all quickly got their hands on confidence with shooting and the coaches were able to work with small groups and encourage technique and interest. There were parents spectating and a beautiful dry evening meant that we could all appreciate the setting that we are growing to love and enjoy so much.

Finally, time seemed to fly and we were giving out small trophies and medals to each group as decided by the coaches. It was a good evening and the Scouts seemed to enjoy it, plus several parents went away wanting to return for a taster session and find out more!

Friday’s session saw some members come along for the first time since our move, a warm welcome for Paul and Jackie, we miss people when they are not around. Jackie enjoyed Rockingham’s ambiance and relaxed instantly while Robyn, Deniss and Rian were tempted out of the heat of the evening by the Air-Conditioned Command Post!

Sunday’s pm session, we knew that the Museum was having its “opening” so to help we got members to park along the gravel, being very respectful of the grass. It was a good idea as there were lots of visitors.

Our session went well, it was dry and not actually too hot, or too windy. Our coach, Alan, was doing his Archery GB homework and also working with Sharon and Charlotte. We also welcome a new affiliate member Pip, and saw some more returners after a short absence with Rayon shooting and Matt making a welcome come back. David W showed his face and now he knows where we are and Mark H managed to stop shooting before he aggravated his injury.

We realised that we had missed the opportunity of setting up a have-a-go for the museum opening, although we did chat to several visitors and Trev managed to get a few of them a cheeky quick trial.

Fingers crossed they get in touch and we see them again!

Next time, we will chat to the museum guys and get more involved.

The event did inspire one of our members to want to get more involved with the history of Archery, and historical display and re-enactments. So, next years Fun Day could have a lot more exciting stuff happening!
