Rockingham Forest Park was overwhelmed by Ladybirds this week! In fact, on Wednesday 16th October there was, what can only be described as a plague of them. They were everywhere and not singular, lots of them, the air was heavy with them and you could literally pluck them out of the air. It was quickly dubbed the ‘Great 2024 Ladybird Swarm’!
It was an interesting distraction during a really lovely Taster session – a lady had organised it as a surprise for her partners 60th birthday. We set up the range. complete with a birthday banner on the target face!

The surprise worked and Russ, the birthday boy, described the Archery as “the icing on the cake”. They both had a thoroughly good time and both went away wanting Beginners and club information. So, a real feel-good factor.
More on the Great 2024 Ladybird Swarm! The ladybirds kept coming – all evening. We were all brushing them off of us and shaking them out of our hair. Before we knew it, Zander, Kai, and Oliver were arriving, ready to shoot the club session. We had another taster session – well, more of an Archers assessment with John really! Marv had shot with university and felt he wanted to get back in to it! He proved to have natural ability – shooting both barebow and recurve styles. We really hope to be welcoming Marv as a club member soon (and he has said that he has a friend or two who also did archery and may be interested. Our response is …the more the merrier)
