Zombies and Witches and Spooks… Oh my!

Bows in a rack, waiting to be shot

Zombies and Witches and Spooks! If you went to Rockingham Forest Park on Sunday 27th October, you would’ve been “terrified” by our Halloween Fun Shoot.

It was our annual Halloween shoot – and the forests of RFP had been haunted. A couple of the undead had wandered onto our Archery range, and our members had arrived in their alternative forms! We had Little Red Riding Hood, looking very grown-up. John was suffering from a “splitting” headache, and Di was possessed by pantomime ghosts (its behind me!). Morticia and Gomez arrived looking spooktacularly glamourous.

We had a beautiful ‘Day of the Dead’ bride and Death himself was present, but was possessing Keiths body when shooting. Annabel from Animal Crossing arrived – looking cute, but……could they be evil too? There was a many eyed monster, who had eyes on everyone, everywhere (quite a cool skill for a coach)! Our own Steampunk Plague Doctor arrived, with his beaked mask and questionable vision! We lost a Vice-Chair – he completely merged in to the grass and greenery. Halloween had possessed Steph, and there were spiders webs everywhere!

Zombies and Witches and Spooks!

We were shooting a “Woo-woo-worcester” on black faces at 20yards. If we spotted a Zombie attack, everyone piled in to shoot them!

Halfway through, and the ghoulish Griffin Archers got to spend some time warming up over ‘Vomit’ Curry (nice and chunky), ‘Blood’ Soup, ‘Sick Bag’ soup, and ‘Baby Nappy’ Soup. Then it was back to the Zombie zone to change targets for the 2nd half of the round.  We had some fun moments as the zombies spattered tomato sauce blood everywhere, and their melon heads exploded spectacularly. Our Long Bow hooters had a dispute over an “octo-duck”, and we had a suggestion of sabotage! The Ghoulish Griffins were not quiet – laughter rang out across the range and the spider webs attached themselves to anything and everything.

Half-term fun as well!

Because it was half term, we ran a “have-a-go” target as a bit of fun for the holiday makers who walked past. At £1 for 4 arrows we did really well, Trev and John got quite a flurry of customers. We also had a club raffle and that raised over £80 for club funds too.

With the clocks going back, the range got dark quickly and we went back to the centre for more hot soups and drinks – plus cake! Our raffle draw was hilarious, we had some members who had bought multiple tickets. When we called their name for the 4th, 5th, or 6th time – we all wanted them to take the weirdest of the prizes. But there were sufficient prizes that most who had bought a strip of tickets won something!

So, did you see us on Sunday? Were you even slightly afraid of the Griffin Archers shooting at zombies. It was all in fun – Honest!
