Griffin Archers – “Is that rain? Or is it summer?”

A week of firsts! Our first committee meeting in the Activity Centre, the first (of many) holiday makers having the full “Griffin Archers Experience”, and first time trying the much closer to the gravel road shooting line! Oh, and first time finding a QR code for the Activity Centre.

Oh, and I have learnt an important lesson about #tagging. #@rockinghamforestpark

Now, I feel soooooo old this week! Not only is one of the Olympic archers for Team GB only 16 years old, but I found out that I really do not understand “tagging” . So being told to “use your socials “ and remember to “Tag RFP in”.

I also learned that anyone under 40 doesn’t want leaflets or website addresses – they want to scan a QR code and will look at it later!

So, now I’m making a concerted effort to #tag everything. My Facebook friends are a bit surprised to keep being directed to Griffin Archers and Rockingham Forest Park, but they have now got their heads around it. I did discover that you cannot tag in a take-away order without confusing the delivery driver!

Back to the archery …

Back to Griffin Archers and archery, we had two members (Pip, Trevor) compete in the Jollies Open competition this Sunday, 28th June. They did their very best and Trevor thinks he has achieved a PB. We are always proud to be represented outside of the Griffin home range.

We finally completed their final hours for our Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award student “Charlie,” and his dad (Ian) who did the training with him. Because of the hours they have to cover for the award we always include the candidates in some other archery rounds and options. Ian and Charlie have seen us through our move and both have picked up archery really well. They have gone away with Certificates that qualifies them as Competent Archers”. As a club we are recognised DofE trainers. One of our other members is currently completing his Gold DofE Award. So, lots of interest in using Archery as a sport to include in their achievements.

Badges galore …

Finally, it was a good Sunday session for 252 badges. Our newbies – Rachael, Paul and Lauren all gained the 20yd badge in the Barebow category, and Tom R. managed the 252 badge in Recurve. Then Alex and Tom B. took on the challenge of gaining a 252 at 40yds, Alex achieved this and has already completed a scoring round at 50yds. Tom was so close, and as a relative newbie, he was doing really well. His bow started making an odd noise during the round, and Deniss discovered it was the weight on the end of his long-rod. Better luck next time, Tom!

Sara got so close on a 30yd 252 – she will crack it next time. Grace got her 30yds barebow 252, so badges and PB’s everywhere.

Carl and Robyn did manage to get the Short metric target distances out, but….they got so involved in coaching that they never actually got to shoot the round ( better luck next time). Such is the life of a Griffin Archers coach – we are always busy with the teaching of others!

Anyway, if it’s not sunny – the rain is definitely warmer, so I’m officially declaring “Summer”. Stay with us for more of life at Griffin Archers
