Holiday Makers and a “Rock of Ages”

John and Di spent a very happy weekend helping Holiday makers here @ RFP, enjoy Archery for the first time.

John is a veteran coach and has been trained by Archery GB – with that and his own passion for archery, he always gets so much out of passing his knowledge on to others. It was very satisfying watching an 8-year-old get so enthralled with archery. His aim and his mental maths at adding up scores were so amazing. We sent Mum and Dad away with details of how to find a club local to them at home. We wish them all luck for the future.

Later, a lovely couple came along and discovered the posture benefits of archery. As a Mechanic and a Hairdresser, they both enjoyed the reason to stand tall and stretch physically. Their friendly competitiveness made the activity so much fun, with lots of laughing and smiles.

Then on Sunday afternoon, we had a lovely guest, who showed a real talent and natural ability for Archery. He enjoyed shooting alongside our club session and was very interested in the detail of archery and how to improve. We hope that he will find his local club, it is one that John knows of!

Carl also got the opportunity to work with another RFP site favourite, Matt, of Diamond Stars Glass. He had been an archer in the past and wanted to see if he could remember the skill. Matt got on famously and we have recommended that he take part in a Refresher course with Griffin, with the potential of joining the club once he has gotten comfortable with the sport again.

Griffin Archers ‘Olympics’

Along with that and the amazingly sunny weather, we had a trial run, or ‘heats’, of our Griffin Olympics. An in-club fun shoot, run under the Olympic conditions and officially happening next Sunday. Trev took charge and Di sorted teams. We went easy this time – whoever was on the same target got to be team-mates. We had 3 teams to begin with – The Gothic Squad, A Lady and 2 Gentlemen, and The Rock of Ages.  First round after sighters and The Gothic Squad were slightly behind, with A Lady and 2 Gentlemen coming next and leading clearly was the Rock of Ages.

Second Round, and everyone did so much better. They had got to grips with the idea of shooting one arrow per archer, each team member one at a time. Unfortunately, this time the Gothic Squad were knocked out into the bronze position, they got a lolly and to spectate the final round (which they did from the shade of the gazebo).

Scores were higher still on the final shoot out round, the final scores meant that Rock of Ages took the Gold, Paul C, Pip and Trevor were the worthy winners. They are hotly tipped to be the most wanted team members for next week. Although the Lady and 2 Gentlemen were worthy silver medallists, so Rachael, ‘Slick’ and Borna are hot property too.

Hot? – indeed we are!

The weather got hotter and hotter, and some of our members gave in to the temptations of ice cream from the Command Post.  Others got smoothies, but a couple of hours in the heat was enough for most people and we were packing away by 4-30pm.

A satisfying weekend, but…soooo hot!
